Meander

Adelaide, 2023

The path meanders in a way that seems disparate in its connections between beginning and end. At any given point visibility may be poor, the destination unknown, the path becoming more unclear whilst posing impossible choices.

I wonder if this is a metaphor for navigating the “goat track” of an arts career in times of scarce resources with an abundance of dreams,  which is actually all the time.

Perpetually diverting and reappearing, the idea that seems resolved, is now unfinished after its meandering journey.

These hand built porcelain curly sticks are modelled on Sheoak and Gum tree sticks collected near Sauerbier House and Meningie. They reference a personal history, as well as  the Arboreal motif in Chinese art, the flowering plum tree’s and gnarly branches depicted on historic porcelains.

Featured in the Desire Lines Exhibition: 5 August – 16 September 2023
