Gus Clutterbuck is a mid career artist who embraces risk and experimentation to keep his work fresh and constantly evolving.
His work is inspired by direct immersion in place, experience, personal history and the potential of broken and discarded objects to tell stories about our culture. This creative vision is expressed through multiple artforms including drawing, ceramics, and photography. Clutterbuck exhibits both nationally and internationally, having presented two successful solo exhibitions, “Shards”(2015) and “Falling”(2018) with MEOU Art in Shanghai, as well as working annually in Jingdezhen, China.
His work is held in the collection of the Art Gallery of South Australia, Flinders Medical Centre, Jingdezhen Ceramic University (China), Yingge Ceramic Art Museum (Taiwan) and numerous private collections. In 2011 he was awarded a Special Prize for his work Plastic Geology (2011) in the Gyeonggi International Ceramix Biennale, Icheon, South Korea (2011). In 2014 he was the recipient of an Asialink Residency at the Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China. In 2020 his work Master of the Rocks 1 & 3 was a finalist in the Taiwan Ceramics Biennale at the Yingge Ceramics Museum, Taipei.
He also has experience working in Community arts and education. As an artsworker with a deep commitment to reconciliation, he has consistently worked with indigenous artists since 2008, living and working in the APY Lands ( 2009/10), as Visual Arts Coordinator-Tandanya (2014) and currently as a Ceramics facilitator/mentor with Waringarri Aboriginal Arts in Kununurra since 2016.
